Verla M. Tagliabue (nee Harmelink), a longtime resident of Rutherford, died on Saturday, September 15th at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Tagliabue.
Verla was born and raised in Shebogyan County, Wisconsin and graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School. She attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, where she met her husband. After their marriage in 1950 they moved to Howard’s hometown of Secaucus, and then to Rutherford. They were married for almost 62 years. She worked as an executive secretary in New York City before leaving to raise her family.
Verla was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford for more than 50 years, where she served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. She was a volunteer driver for Star Fish of Rutherford.
She is survived by two sons, Robert of Rutherford and John (Sarah Marshall) of Rutherford; two daughters, Nancy Polhamus (John) of Glassboro and Judy L. Marshall (Charles)of Fountain Valley, CA; three grandchildren, Emily Polhamus, Andrew Polhamus, and Anna Marshall-Tagliabue; and a sister, Carol Meves of Hamilton, MT.
The family will greet visitors on Friday September 21st, 2018 from 1-3pm. in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 1 E. Passaic Avenue, Rutherford.
followed by a Memorial Service, at 3pm.
