Sister Thomas Francis, CSJP passed away at Hudson Villa, St. Michael Villa, Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs on August 25, 2018. Sr. was 97 yrs old.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on August 13, 1921.
Daughter of the late Thomas A. Halleran and Catherine Murphy, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace at St. Michael Villa Novitiate, Englewood Cliffs, NJ on July 31, 1943, and pronounced final vows there on February 2, 1949.
Education: BS Ed, Seton Hall University; MS from Mount St. Mary College, BS Nursing, University of Phoenix.
An X-ray technician, Sr. Thomas Francis ministered at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, prior to entering the field of education. She taught in NJ grammar schools in Medford, Whippany, Washington, Fair Lawn, Elizabeth and Penns Grove. In 1960, she was assigned to the California region of the congregation where she taught at St. Genevieve High School, Van Nuys for 15 years. After additional studies at Mt. St. Mary College and Pasadena City College, St. Thomas Francis continued her ministry as professional nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, CA, retiring to St. Michael Villa in 2007.
Sister was pre-deceased by three brothers, Raymond F. Halleran, John F. Halleran and Thomas Halleran.
Visiting hours at St. Michael Villa, Englewood Cliffs, NJ on Tuesday, August 28 from 2PM to 6PM. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on August 29 in St. Michael Villa Chapel at 9:30AM. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington, NJ.
