FORMER JOCKEY
Anthony F. Chester 74 of Rutherford passed suddenly on April 16, 2010 in Hackensack Hosp. Anthony was a former Thoroughbred Jockey and was a rider for the racing hall of Fame Trainer, H. Allen Jerkins. Chester would recall his horse training days of the 1950s as if it was yesterday. He would occasionally talk about his close contact with celebrities that the racing industry attracts. Chester's most famous Hollywood connections came when he met and had coffee with Joan Crawford and Dick Van Patten. He continued his career until 1959. After that he became a union printer for Local 1 of the Amalgamated Lithographers, and later for Sandy Alexander Lithographers in Clifton. His second passion was music; he played classical guitar and taught guitar and piano. He used to play guitar for his beloved wife Frances when she stood in the kitchen and was preparing dinner. He was also active in his church, The First Church of Christ ,Scientist in Montclair and served on its board of Directors.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife Frances (nee Grispino") his two step-sons, Ray Powers and his wife Rose, Matt Powierski and his wife Tara, his new born granddaughter Emma Grace and Hailey Mandara and Arianna Dooley. His also leaves his sister Josephine Pilosi and brother Joseph Chester and a Brother in law John Ambrose. Funeral will be Wednesday following a10:00am Service from Collins Calhoun Funeral Home19 Lincoln Ave. Rutherford Family will receive friends Tues. 2-4 & 7-9pm Donations in Anthony's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association http://www.diabetes.org/
