It is with sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden loss of our friend John P. Williams, who passed away at his St. James, N.C. home on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

John is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 47 years. Their two daughters are Amy Williams Webster and Erin Williams Cunnane and her husband Christian. Their two sons are Justin Williams and Jared Williams and his wife Maura. Their three grandchildren Greyson, Emilia and Devin.

John and Barbara moved to St. James from Warwick, NY.

John’s career as President of the landscape architectural firm MKW + Associates enabled him to display his love of children and nature through his work. His many project designs, which include the Everett Children's Adventure Garden in the New York Botanical Garden, NYC waterfront parks, municipal parks, and downtown revitalization have been nationally recognized. At the Dallas Arboretum his 2013 landscape design for Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden earned him national honors for contributions to “the world’s most elaborate and interactive garden for children.” This park and its 150+ interactive science games now serve as a learning center for the Dallas school system’s students and staff.

John's genius for designing places that harmonize with nature will be enjoyed by others for many years. May they find joy and serenity while experiencing the landscape designs that were his life’s work.

Dear family and friends of John,
I just heard about John's passing today and am still in shock. Too soon to go...
It was in the early 80's that I had the pleasure of working for Miceli Kulik, later to be known as Miceli Kulik Williams. I was green and right out of school; John was the answer man. I nicknamed him "Mr. Construction". I remember he rode his bike to work!
I was there when he was promoted to Associate! Although I was there for only 3 years, he provided me with a wealth of information and experience that would become the springboard to my successful career in Landscape Architecture.
We will miss him dearly,
Kurt Snyder

I am so sorry to hear about John’s sudden passing. Sending warm healing thoughts to the family. I had known John for many years. It was always wonderful to see him on Parks Projects and at professional social events. He was so kind and friendly and talented! He produced some really wonderful Parks and open spaces that will be enjoyed by many many New Yorkers for many years to come. His projects include many wonderful play spaces. The positive impact of these on the lives of city children is likely more important than any of us can imagine. On a personal note - It was a true pleasure working with and knowing John! I will miss him.

Warm Regards,
Nancy Prince

John was an amazing friend and patient of mine for 35 years. I always stopped and talked and laughed with John on Park Ave. He was a breath of fresh air in the middle of our busy lives. John created beauty and made the world such a nicer place to live. John was a great influence on my Dad and I. He was always upbeat and in a great mood. Thats what attracted people to him. I will greatly miss our friendship. This is a huge loss for me, his family and for Rutherford.
