Tim Cole, 71, died June 24, 2020, after a brief period in hospice care in Hackensack, NJ.
Born August 22, 1948, the second son of the late Agnes and Rossa Cole of East Rutherford. He was a lifetime resident of the East Rutherford area, residing in Rutherford since 2001.
He will be deeply missed and forever in the hearts of his family and friends, remembered as a kind- hearted, soft spoken and even-tempered man who was friendly and always willing to lend a hand to help others.
Tim graduated from St. Joseph’s Elementary School and ERHS, class of 1968. After high school, he entered the Navy where he served as a seaman on the USS Detector mine sweeper. After serving, Tim held various positions as a service technician in southern Bergen County. He eventually settled into a position as a groundskeeper/landscaper for the DPW in East Rutherford, from which he retired in 2007. Enjoying landscaping activities, he continued to provide lawn care services for a small group of local residences. He attended landscape maintenance classes at the VA hospital in East Orange where he made many friends and worked part time on their landscaping crew. Besides his activities with the VA, he was an active member and past Commander of American Legion Post 67 in East Rutherford. Tim remained active with The East Rutherford Blood Bank and the local chapters of AA in both Rutherford and ER assisting in organizing and setting up meetings
Spending time with his family, extended family and friends was what Tim loved especially together at the family’s summer residence in Cutchogue, NY enjoying fishing, clamming, boating and community activities with the Nassau Point Property Association for more than 60 years. Tim enjoyed helping and working with children, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Wood-Ridge and a school crossing guard in East Rutherford. He assisted with the annual children’s picnic on Nassau Point, Long Island, NY, setting up and manning the barbecue grills.
He is survived by his sisters: Judith and her husband, Spencer Lovette of NH, Carolyn and her husband, Alan Dyer of RI, and Sheila and her husband, Patrick McFadden of PA, brother: Kevin Cole and his wife Cindy of NJ and sister-in-law, Patricia (Ferraro) Cole of NJ. as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers Rossa Cole II and Brian Cole.
A memorial service for Tim will be held at a later date.
