Obituary for Thomas R. Sorensen
Thomas R. Sorensen, 66, of Rutherford, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 7, 2020. He was born in Hoboken to Raymond and Lillian (nee Olsen) Sorensen.
Thomas and his wife Carol settled in Rutherford 15 years ago. They enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. Tom especially loved his Labrador Retriever, Cody, who was a great award winning “show” dog. Tom also was a huge Giants fan and found pleasure in crossword puzzles from the NY Times and the Washington Post. Everyone thought of Thomas as a great guy and a good friend. He was a Territory Sales Mgr. for Gates Automotive for 36 years, before retiring in March of 2020.
Thomas will be missed by his loving wife Carol (nee Pelikan) of 39 years, his brother George Sorensen and his wife Patricia, his nephew Christopher and wife Jean, his sister-in-law Patricia Pelikan and his brother-in-law Joseph Pelikan.
Almost a year after Tom’s death, family and friends gathered at Michael’s Riverside Restaurant for a Memorial Service to celebrate and honor his life.
A continuous running slide/movie presentation formed the backdrop for a touching and poignant reminder of a life well lived. The Memorial Service commenced with a scriptural reading followed by eulogies from family and friends.
After dinner, guests mingled and passed around scrapbooks filled with pictures, cards, and letters creating a wonderful tribute to Tom’s life.
