Obituary for Joseph D Sette
Joseph Dominick, “Joey Muscles / Nonno” Sette, 80, of Rutherford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 9th, 2019.
He was born in Bayonne to Raphael and Mary Theresa (nee Gerace) Sette. Joe grew up in Bayonne graduating from Bayonne HS, and later attended St. Peter’s College for several courses before entering into the US Army, serving in the United States and overseas. Before traveling abroad, Joe met his sweetheart and future bride, Giovanna Ultimo. They remained married for over 55 years residing in Rutherford since 1964 where they raised their family.
Joseph was employed by The New Jersey Turnpike Authority as a toll collector from 1984 to 2006, before retiring. He enjoyed being outdoors, his vegetable garden or doing yard work around his home, especially with the assistance of his Grandchildren. He also was an avid NY Yankee fan, a Rutherford Guardsman and a volunteer at the Kip Center in Rutherford.
Joe will be deeply and profoundly missed by his beloved wife Giovanna Sette and their loving sons Raymond J. Sette, Giancarlo J. Sette and wife Danielle, Grandchildren, Giada and Giancarlo JR. and his sister Marie Antoinette Alexander. He is predeceased by siblings; Frank Sette, Catherine Capriolla, Rachel Lombardo and Michalina LoPriesti.
Family will receive friends Monday 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Tuesday 8:30am from Funeral Home for 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
