A fierce Irish woman by the name of Hanna McLaughlin passed away on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at 80 years young- or “39” as she would always say.
Hanna was born in County Kerry Ireland to Daniel and Catherine O’Sullivan. Hanna was raised on the family farm along with her 8 siblings. While still in her teens, Hanna set out on her own on a ship bound for New York City where she she lived for a number of years before settling in Rutherford to raise her family.
Hanna grew up strong and raised her children to be as well. There wasn’t much Hanna couldn’t do, from baking, sewing, and crafts to DIY projects big or small. In later years however, she enjoyed the simpler joys of life. She loved a good puzzle, a game of cards by a toasty fire, and especially a good cup of tea. Hanna loved nature and was an avid gardener as well as spoiler of animal companions four-legged and winged alike.
Predeceased by her husband Michael McLaughlin (1996), she leaves behind her children Sean Gallagher and Catherine O’Keefe, their spouses Amanda Gallagher and Brian O’Keefe and her beloved grandchildren, Tara Gallagher, Patrick O’Keefe, & Kerry O’Keefe. The memories of Hanna in all the lives she touched are filled with laughter, wit, and that golden Irish charm. She will be celebrated forever as a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and an honest friend. “Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
Family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave, Rutherford.
Funeral Thursday 9:30am from Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations to be made, in Hanna’s memory, to the Rutherford First Aid Ambulance Corp. P.O. Box 217 Rutherford, NJ 07070.
