Obituary for Elizabeth A. Buell

Elizabeth A. Buell (Liz), 53, of Clifton, formerly of Rutherford, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, after a long battle with ALS.
At a young age, Liz found that she enjoyed helping others, and she joined the Rutherford First-Aid Ambulance Corps. This led her to the career path in nursing, an accomplishment of which she was most proud. She was a 1988 graduate of Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Jersey City. She worked as a registered nurse at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, for 15 years. Liz built a home in Pennsylvania where in her free time, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, snow tubing, and horseback riding with her nieces. Liz was a die-hard Yankee fan and loved to attend the games when she got the chance. She loved animals, and had many pets. The effects of ALS forced her early retirement from nursing. However, the ALS never diminished her tenacity or spirit. Liz became her own advocate, and persevered in remaining independent and active for years after her diagnosis. She even took on sky diving. Liz treasured every day, and despite her daily struggles and limitations she never stopped fighting. She was a compassionate soul, who was loving and caring to all.
Liz is predeceased by her parents, Robert (1986) and Joanne (2015) Buell. She is survived by her sister, Kim Smolka, and brothers Scott Buell & his wife, JoEllen, Robert Buell (retired Rutherford PD) & his wife Regina, Thomas Buell (Clifton PD) & his wife Karin, and her nieces and nephews: Robert, Joseph, Daniel, John, Lara, Alexandra, Nicole, and great grand-niece Leilani.

Family will receive friends Monday April 5th from 9:00am to Noon in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. Prayer Service in the Funeral Home at Noon. Interment George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus.
