Obituary for Alfred Miller


Alfred Miller 87, of Clifton passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 surrounded by his family . Born in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Robert and Bertha (Walsh) Miller.
As a young man, Alfred entered the US Navy where he proudly served during the Korean War. He then married his beloved wife Lillian (Roche) Miller and they raised 4 children together. Alfred was a resident of Jersey City for over 80 years prior to moving to Clifton. He was employed by A&P Supermarket for over 20 years before working in maintenance at the Meadowlands Racetrack for over 30 years. He enjoyed gambling and was regularly taking trips to Atlantic City and Mount Airy. Known to many as "Big Al" or even "Red" in his younger years he was a huge fan of all New York sports.
In addition to his late wife Lillian and his parents Alfred was predeceased by his siblings Robert Miller, Jack Miller, Walter Miller and Bertha O'Halloran.
Al loved his family dearly. He was always goofing around and making us laugh or cringe with some of his off the wall comments. Al is survived by his son Bart Palumbo; daughters Darlene Scannell and her husband Richard; Doreen Skeens and her husband James; Robin Wheeler and her husband David; his granddaughters Krystine, Samantha, Jessica, Jillyan, Nicole and Jennifer; his great-grandchildren Alyssa, Anthony, Gianna and Ava. His brother Richard W. Miller and wife Lorraine and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2019 from 3-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral will be Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00am graveside at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
